Kicking around Camden

Sammy and Lucy in Camden, Alabama. August 2010. Soul food restaurant and motel pool. The pool was very warm. The hottest water I have ever swam in. Daily temperatures were regularly about 110. The car thermometer reached 118.

cows and leopards

This quilt features animal fabrics. Mostly I used cow for the dairy families. Sometimes "newcomers" got leopard.

This project was supported in part by the Vermont Arts Council which receives funds from the NEA!!

Here's quilt 2

Of the 4 Kirby Documentary Quilts.
Several of the individuals on this quilt have died since their portrait was made. Cheryl McMahon of the Kirby Quilters did the quilting on this one. She quilted a butterfly around the portrait of Grace Emery who died in November, 2009. Grace loved her garden, birds, and butterflies.

I ended up making 4

of the Kirby Documentary Quilts! If I had made 1 it would have been too large and heavy. I grouped things loosely. Themes, families, neighborhoods, cows, fabrics. Here is quilt one.
